The Council has decided to re-implement credit control measures as from 01 October 2020.
Clients who could not make timely arrangements to pay off their municipal accounts, will be accommodated by means of credit control measures being relaxed to a 50/50 recovery on prepaid electricity purchases.
Example of 50/50 recovery: If your municipal account is in arrears and you decide to purhcase prepaid electricity worth R100, the following will occur. A R50 will go towards paying off your outstanding debt. The other R50 will be issued to you in prepaid electricity.
We urge all clients, whose accounts are in arrears, to visit their nearest Municipal Office to make use of the following opportunities:
• Customers with a monthly household income of less than R5 000 can apply for an indigent subsidy. If you qualify for an indigent subsidy, your monthly municipal account will be reduced by as much as R475. This amount includes 6 kilolitres of water free of charge.
• If you have outstanding debt which is older than 30 June 2019 and you pay it off in one instalment, your interest accrued on this debt will be written-off.
• You can also apply to pay off your outstanding debt “interest free” over a period of no more than 36 months.
RELAXATION OF CREDIT CONTROL MEASURES WILL ONLY BE VALID UNTIL 30 NOVEMBER 2020.
