Bergrivier Municipal Notices

In terms of the AFRIFORUM NPC court rulings of 4 December 2025 and 20 February 2026, municipalities must submit their 2026/27 electricity tariff application to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) by no later than 31 March 2026.
All municipal electricity consumers within the Bergrivier Municipal Area are hereby invited to submit inputs on the 2026/27 electricity tariffs to Elsabe Kankowski at kankowskie@bergmun.org.za by no later than 30 March 2026 at 15:00.
Bergrivier Municipality will then, on 31 March 2026, request the Municipal Council to approve the Electricity Cost of Supply Study in order for it to be submitted to NERSA.
This process is important as it will enable NERSA to consider and determine the Municipality’s electricity tariffs for the 2026/27 financial year.
NERSA will conduct public participation on the proposed tariffs during April 2026, and conclude on 21 April 2026.

At the prestigious National Good Governance Awards, held at the Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg on 2 October 2025, several Western Cape municipalities were recognised for their excellence — and Bergrivier proudly stood among the best, walking away with three major awards.

Executive Mayor, Alderman Ray van Rooy, expressed his delight, saying: “This is a proud moment for Bergrivier. These awards are not just about numbers and audits, but rather about our commitment to honesty, accountability, and the people we serve. Despite the tough economic climate, we have proven that excellence and integrity can thrive when everyone works together to create a prosperous community.”

The awards obtained were as follows:
Award 1: For achieving a Clean Audit Outcome for the 2023/2024 financial year – a clear reflection of sound financial management, transparency, and accountability and the 9th consecutive clean audit for Bergrivier Municipality.
Award 2: For being among the select few municipalities that adopted funded budgets for 10 consecutive years, demonstrating long-term financial discipline and stability even during very tough financial seasons.
Gold Award: For ranking within the top 3,8% (top 13 municipalities) of overall best-run municipalities in South Africa, cementing Bergrivier’s reputation as a leader in good governance and service excellence.

Van Rooy mentioned that these phenomenal achievements, earned under very difficult economic circumstances, are a testament to the dedication, integrity and teamwork of Bergrivier Municipality’s leadership, management, and staff as well as the invaluable support of our community.

The Municipality’s remarkable success was also celebrated at the Council Meeting held on 28 October 2025, where Councillors and officials expressed immense pride and gratitude for the collective effort that continues to drive the organisation forward.

Municipal Manager, Adv. Hanlie Linde, added: “Our success is built on teamwork, consistency, and a shared vision. Every department, every employee, every Councillor, and every resident plays a vital role in our journey of progress. These awards belong to the entire Bergrivier Municipal family — all of you inspire us to continue serving our communities with passion and purpose. Thank you!”

Bergrivier Municipality remains committed to excellence, transparency, and service delivery that uplifts every resident. Together, we are building prosperous communities and ensuring dignified living.
