BERGRIVIER MUNICIPALITY TO REFRAIN FROM SPRAYING SIDEWALKS, PARKS OR OPEN SPACES DURING ITS BLOSSOMING SEASON
09 SEPTEMBER 2022
Bergrivier Municipality understands the importance of its blossoming season and the value that wild flowers bring during this period, making it a popular tourist attraction.
The Municipality took a decision to delay all spraying of side walks, parks and open spaces in the various towns, to provide sufficient time for the blooming period to complete its annual cycle.
The flowering season started late in August 2022, and is only expected to come to an end by late October 2022. David Carolissen, Manager: Community Services at Bergrivier Municipality, mentioned that the Municipality values the local ecosystem and has therefore taken a decision not to interfere with the blooming of the different kind of plant species. "This course of action will enable us to preserve important plant species, by allowing all wild plants to blossom in an undisturbed environment in which they can seed and mature. As much as we love that our residents and visitors can enjoy a beautiful display of colors and fragrances, these areas also serve as corridors of conservation as well", said Carolissen.

BERGRIVIER STRONGLY REJECTS ESKOM’S PROPOSED 32% ELECTRICITY PRICE INCREASE
Statement by Bergrivier Municipality’s Executive Mayor Ald. Ray van Rooy
As Executive Mayor of Bergrivier Municipality, I simply cannot accept continuous, ridiculously unaffordable proposals by Eskom, for electricity price increases.
Eskom’s most recent application to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa), requesting approval for an alarming 32% price increase in electricity, could again mean that consumers or the public will have to fork out more money for this essential service.
I fully support both, Stellenbosch Municipality and Bitou Municipality, for boldly and publicly rejecting Eskom’s latest application. I too reject this application in the strongest terms and am calling for it to be scrapped as a matter of urgency.
